Evolutie – Theosofische Perspectieven

. . – Gotfried de Purucker, in: Man in Evolution.
Kundun – A Biography of the Family of the Dalai Lama
By Mary Craig.
391 Pages | First published in Great Britain, first paperback edition 1998 | Paperback | Counterpoint, Washington | ISBN: 1887178910.
Here is the story of Tibet as told by its remarkable first family – a story of reïncarnation, coronation, heartbreaking exile, and finally the tenacious efforts of a holy man to save a nation and its people.
From the Foreword:
” We Tibetans are resilient, patient and resourceful. Ours is just a cause. We continue to be confident that the truth will ultimately triumph and our land and people will once more be free. Would the Chinese consider the Tibetan question so sensitive if our cause was dead? Under difficult circumstances we have kept the Tibetan spirit and a sense of hope alive. However, it is clear that these efforts alone will not be sufficient to bring about a final positive solution. Therefore, I appeal to the readers of this book to support the Tibetan people, so that ultimately they may again live in peace and dignity.
– His Holiness the 14th Dalai Lama. “
From Chapter ‘Lord of the Lion Throne’, p. 68:
” He is supposed to be the temporary embodiment of a god . . . called upon to lead, comfort and improve sinful, sufferinf mankind, and to teach the way to release. It is throughout the same being who sits on the Lhasa throne in successive embodiments. The secret person, the spiritual reality of the Dalai Lama, is immutable and only his body changes, a perishable vessel employed to reach down to the lowly human level and to make the dazzling light of the truth he embodies accessible to our limited understanding. ”

Hindu Ethics, Purity, Abortion and Euthanasia
By Harold G. Coward, Julius J. Lipner and Katherine K. Young.
139 Pages | 1989 | Soft cover | State University of New York Press, Albany | ISBN: 0887067646.
Modern Western approaches to India often have focused on metaphysics at the expense of ethics, leading many to see Hinduism as only concerned with the esoteric and the otherwordly. The chapters of this book offer case study explorations, that are selected and presented to invite comparisons with the modern West. Such comparisons will help to remove the apparent otherworldly nature of Hindu thought from the minds of Western readers, as well as give depth to and new significance to Indian ideas in the areas of medical ethics, social ethics, and human rights. The case studies demonstrate that Indian thought has not ignored deep reflection on ethical problems that are presenting serious challenges to the modern world. They demonstrate, that Hinduism has a firm grounding in ethics, even when the most difficult questions are raised.
The Transparent Jewel
By Mabel Collins (1851-1927).
142 Pages | Facsimile edition of the original 1913 publication | Softcover | Kessinger Publications LCC, Montana U.S.A. | ISBN: 1564599140.
This ‘jewel’ of which Mabel Collins is writing, is no diamond dug out of the darkness of the earth, but is no less a thing than the mind of man when it has been drawn from the darkness of material life and become perfectly clear. It then, when directed upon any object, is able to entirely perceive and understand it, by the same method that a rock-crystal takes on the hue of a coloured substance with which it is brought into contact. This is the condition of conscious trance-like clairvoyance, which is attained by those who practise what is called the ‘Yoga of devotion’. Hence, this book is important to anyone in ‘Yoga’.
From page 106:
” By light is here meant the light of entire passivity, which is identical with that of the Soul, ever blissful and free. The covering consists of the phenomenal which is a result of ‘Karma’. By the practice of prāṇāyāma this covering is removed, and the real nature of the Soul is realised for once and for ever. The mind (Aphorism LIII.) then becomes fit for being quite absorbed in the subject thought of. ‘Absorption’ has to be carried to the extent of forgetting the act, and of becoming the thing thought of; it is then the Yoga trance or ‘samādhi’. “
Illusions
By Mabel Collins (1851-1927).
71 Pages |Facsimile of the original 1905 edition |Softcover | Kessinger Publishing Company, Montana U.S.A. | ISBN: 1564599094.
The following essay is an effort towards the freeing of our consciousness from the limitation in which it habitually dwells, and which exits only by means of certain illusions that are common to all men.
CONTENTS:
ILLUSION 1. – That man is imprisoned in the body.
ILLUSION 2. – That the Unborn are unknown.
ILLUSION 3. – That there is any secret in the Mind of the memory from man.
ILLUSION 4. – That the earth exists apart from man.
ILLUSION 5. – That Nature is indifferent to Man.
From ILLUSION 3 (p. 47):
” The memory of man is a great storehouse, filled to overflowing with the wonderful experiences of incarnated life, of life between the incarnations and of the thoughts and feelings brought both from above and below – from that depth of material life to which passion and desire take us, and from the Great White Throne before which we do obeisance in our high moments of inspiration and adoration. Nothing is lost or forgotten, or passed by. “
The Blossom and the Fruit – A True Story of a Black Magician
By Mabel Collins (1851-1927).
332 Pages | Facsimile edition of the original 1890 publication | Softcover | Kessinger Publications LCC, Montana U.S.A. | ISBN: 1564597032.
‘Only – One facet of the stone, One ray of the star, One petal of the flower of life, But the one that stands outermost and faces us who are men and women’.
This strange story has come from a far country and was brought in a mysterious manner; we claim only to be the scribes and the editors. We therefore ask that the reader will accept the theory of the reincarnation of Souls as a fact.
From the Introduction (p. 16):
” At last Wild Blossom’s Soul woke from its sleep, satiated; the hunger returned to gnaw at her heart; the longing to know reasserted itself. Holding tight the hand she held in hers, she sprang from the soft couch on which she lay. Then, for the first time, she noticed that the ground was so soft and pleasant, because there, where she had lain, had drifted great heaps of the fallen fruit blossoms. “
The Secret of the Golden Flower – A Chinese Book of Life
Translated and explained by Richard Wilhelm (1873 – 1930), with a commentary by Carl Gustav Jung (1875 – 1961)
149 Pages | First published in 1931; new, revised & augmented edition, 1962 | Softcover | Harcourt Brace & Company, USA | ISBN 9780156799805
The Secret of the Golden Flower, the Treatise that forms the central part of this book, was discovered by Professor Wilhelm, who recognized it as essentially a practical guide to the integration of the personality. His German translation, published in the autumn of 1929 shortly before his death, was immediately hailed by Jung as a link between the insights of the East and his own psychological research, a relationship explored by the great analytical psychologist in a brilliant and significant commentary.
This edition also contains part of another Chinese meditation text, the Hui Ming Ching or The Book of Consciousness and Life, and is illustrated with numerous plates and drawings.
A quotation about ‘detachment’ (p. 122):
A halo of light surrounds the world of the law.
We forget one another, quiet and pure, altogether powerful and empty.
The emptiness is irradiated by the light of the heart of heaven.
The water of the sea is smooth and mirrors the moon its surface.
The clouds disappear in blue space; the mountains shine clear.
Consciousness reverts to contemplation; the moondisk rests alone.

The Divine Vagabond
By Harindranath Chattophadyaya (1898 – 1990) with a Foreword by Curuppumullage Jinarājadāsa (1875–1953).
Chattopadyaya 135 Pages | Published on Sept. 2nd 1950 | Softcover | Theosophical Publishing House, Adyar | No ISBN.
From the Foreword:
For over half a century the poetry of England and the United States has been balefully influenced by the prevailing materialism of our age. They remind me of our Indian ants, who bite the yellow rind only and never penetrate into the sweet pulp. The Poetry of today with its rhythms and imageries appeals mainly to the mind. Not that they are not exquisite in their way; they can certainly do give delight. Yet nevertheless, it can be said of these poets:
‘Tis ye, ’tis your estrang-ed faces,
That miss the many-splendoured thing’.
Of course here and there are a few exceptions like Alice Meynell, Francis Thompson, A.E. Yeats, Cousins and a few others. But in the main, I who love poetry greatly, have felt a profound dissatisfaction with the poems I have read.
From the Prelude:
” I AM a vagabond, but never ask me
From where I came.
I only know that I came like a shadow,
I’ll pass like a flame.
Every man that you meet on the roadway
And in the street,
Without his knowing hides a great vagabond’s
Tune in his feet.
What is the sun but a vagabond’s laughter?
What are the stars but a vagabond’s tears?
And the wide world is a wandering vagabond
Looking for some one through the long years. “
Cradle to Cradle – Afval is Voedsel
Door Michael Braungart en William McDonough.
237 Pagina’s | Uitgegeven in 2007 | Softcover | Search Knowledge, Heeswijk | ISBN: 9789055945771.
Engels origineel: Cradle to Cradle – Remaking the Way We Make Things | North Point Press, a division of Farrar, Straus & Giroux, New York | ISBN: 9780865475878.
Afval is voedsel. “
TAO Te Tjing
Blok.
159 Pagina’s | Eerste druk 1910, 13de herziene druk 2013 (Klassiekers) | Softcover | Ankh-Hermes BV., Utrecht | ISBN: 9789020209952.
Praktisch Occultisme – Twee Verhandelingen
Door Helena Petrovna Blavatsky (1831 – 1891), vertaald door Helma Kool.
52 Pagina’s | Uitgegeven in 1952, derde druk 1973 | Brochure | Uitgeverij der Theosofische Vereniging in Nederland, Amsterdam | ISBN: 9789061750048.
Engels origineel: First Steps in Occultism, later published as Practical Occultism | Published in 1952, second edition 2011 | Softcover | ISBN: 9788170595595.
A Modern Panarion – A Collection of Fugitive Fragments
By Helena Petrovna Blavatsky (1831 – 1891).
504 Pages | A facsimile of the original edition of 1895 | Hardcover | The Theosophical Company, USA. | ISBN: 0938998226.
The title A Modern Panarion has been taken from the controversial Panarion of the Church Father Epiphanius, in which he attacked the various sects and heresies of the first four centuries of the Christian era. The Panarion was so called as being a ‘basket’ of scraps and fragments. We are told. that this Panarion was ‘ a kind of medicine chest, in which he had collected means of healing against the poisonous bite of the heretical serpent. ‘ A Modern Panarion is of a like nature with the intent of the Christian Father; only in the nineteenth century, heresy has in many instances become orthodoxy, and orthodoxy heresy, and the Panarion of H.P. Blavatsky is intended as a means of healing against the terrors of ecclesiasticism, dogma and bigotry, and the blind negation of materialism and pseudo-science.

Het eiland, de jongen en de reis
Paperback
door Mary-Rose Birfelder
Het eiland, de jongen en de reis
Breda Uitgeverij De Ster | ISBN 9065562826 | Prijs € 1,95
The End Times – Prophecies of Coming Changes
By John van Auken.
168 Pages | First edition 1971, 2nd – 5th printings: 1993 – 1996. This is the 6th printing of 2001 | Softcover | A.R.E. Press, Virginia U.S.A. | ISBN: 0876043635.
This eye-opening book looks at prophecies from four major sources: The Bible, Edgar Cayce, Nostradamus, and the Holy Mother as she has appeared in visions over the years. The author examines startling predictions of the ‘End Times’ as they relate to the millennium, emphasizing the strong similarities among these diverse sources.
Examined are:
- Prophecies from The Revelation, Daniel, and other books of the Bible about the final days and the ‘Second Coming’.
- Concepts from the Cacye readings about earth changes and the prophecies written in stone within the Great Pyramid.
- Nostradamus’s amazing predictions from centuries ago.
- Messages from Marian apparitions warning of impending cataclysmic changes unless there is a return to God.
- And much more!
From Chapter Four – ‘The Divine from the Holy Mother’ (The Divine Feminine) (p. 149 & 150):
” The Blessed Virgin appeared in a white dress, a blue mantle with a crown of small golden stars above her head. Her feet were not visible. Her hands were wide open. Her hair is long, dark brown and wavy, and parted in the middle. She has an oval shaped face and her nose is long and delicate. Her mouth is very pretty with rather full lips. The color of her face is dark, but lighter than the Angel’s – it’s different. Her voice is very lovely, a very unusual voice that I can’t describe. There is no woman that resembles the Blessed Virgin in her voice, or anything else. In her arms she sometimes carries the baby Jesus. He is very tiny, like a newborn with a little face. His complexion is like that of the Blessed Virgin’s. “
P. F. W. Huijs.
67 Pagina’s | Uitgegeven in 2001 | Softcover | Rozekruis Pers, Haarlem | ISBN: 9067322490.

Chapter 3 – Evolution and Reïncarnation
Chapter 4 – Which is Scientific, Resurrection or Reïncarnation?
Chapter 5 – Theory of Transmigration.
From Chapter 2 – ‘Heredity of Reïncarnation’ (p. 47):
” Those, who accept the truth of Reïncarnation do not blame their parents for their poor talents, or for not possessing extraordinary powers, but they remain content with their own lot, knowing that they have made themselves as they are to-day by their own thoughts and deeds in their previous incarnations. They understand the meaning of the saying ‘what thou sowest, mus thou reap’, and always endeavor to mould their future by better thoughts and better deeds. They explain all the inequalities and diversities of life and character by the law of ‘Karma’, which governs the process of Reïncarnation as well as the gradual evolution of the germs of life from lower to higher stages of existence. “
